Thank you for writing to your Senators about the Blunt Amendment. The Blunt Amendment was a serious assault on women's contraception coverage and you can be sure that the right-wing will continue in their efforts to turn back the clock on women's health.

We are going to have to fight tooth-and-nail to ensure that women's health is protected but to do so, we need to keep the pressure on Congress and let them know we are watching them closely. Will you send this to your friends and family and tell them to take action as well?

We did it!

A couple days ago the Senate defeated the Blunt Amendment. This archaic piece of legislation would not only prevent women’s access to basic birth control coverage, but would allow any employer the right to refuse coverage of any health service they find religiously or morally objectionable.

Imagine, a CEO of a corporation refusing to cover your medical procedure, just because of his personal beliefs. That’s just wrong.

Public backlash against this bill was strong. And with the help of supporters like you, we were able to put enough pressure on Congress to defeat this measure; sending a clear message that personal medical decisions are between you and your doctor -- not your employer.

While this represents a huge victory for women’s health, it was a very close call, with only 51 Senators voting to defeat the measure.

We need to let Congress know that we will not stand for another direct assault on women’s health. Will you check to see if your Senators voted against the Blunt Amendment – and if not, will you send them a letter expressing your outrage?

From barring women from testifying on a hearing about women’s health, to states now considering legislation forcing invasive and unnecessary medical procedures on women against their will—we know that Republicans are only going to increase their attacks on women’s health. Hateful voices like Rush Limbaugh even now are doubling down on their rhetoric against women, calling women who use birth control "sluts" and "prostitutes".

And while 99 percent of women have relied on birth control in their lifetime, with 1 in 3 reportedly struggling with its high cost, we know that access to contraception coverage is more important than ever.

We can’t let the right-wing win on their assault on women’s health. So we need to send a strong message to Congress -- that women’s access to basic health care should not be threatened.
